Based on our own honeymoon experience, it's safe to say that the resort is perfect for couples or small groups of close friends - not so much for families with kids. A tad pricey but since we had decided to splurge, we thought it a nice splurge.
Since The Sala is situated on Mai Khao Beach, well away from busy Patong, they do provide some activities to keep kids occupied but perhaps only for few hours. You may want to bring your own games for your kids if you plan on holidaying with the family. There's a nice huge pool if your kids are the type who go beserk when they see one, though.
However, as a couple, we thought the spa and it's treatments were heavenly, the lounges are perfect and above all, we absolutely loved the fact that the villas are all designed with individual pools unless you go for individual rooms. It's great especially if one prefers not to venture out - who'd want to especially when the objective was to take a load off, relax with a book in a nice lounger, or take long baths in an open concept bathroom, or simply to laze in a big comfy bed and sleep, sleep, sleep! Did I mention that the bed was comfy?? Each villa is ensured of privacy as it's enclosed within walls that are high enough to keep out the peeping toms but low enough if there's an emergency and for some reason, you can't find the door in panic (though it's right smack in front of you!).
(this was too awesome!!)
(the bathroom. really?!! overlooking the pool y'all!)

Just a tuktuk away, if you're bored of the resort's restaurants, a nearby restaurant and an Irish pub awaits amidst other shops (groceries, linens, lingerie, kidstuff, etc) - but that's it. A very small mall. To get to Phuket town, you'd definitely need a taxi or the hotel can arrange for a pickup/drop off for a small fee.
By the way, the staff were excellent and catered to our every whim. Extremely helpful, informative, non-intrusive (even when we forgot to put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door), and quick to respond to our requests. True Thai hospitality, if you ask me.
Overall, we enjoyed it and it was especially a great, quiet, getaway.
